There are some exciting changes happening at Sustainable Schools NSW.
Developed in 2002, Sustainable Schools NSW helps schools take a whole school approach to sustainability, implement their School Environmental Management Plan, network with their local community and nurture a generation of environmental leaders.
After 15 years of managing Sustainable Schools, OEH is now handing management over to the Australian Association for Environmental Education NSW Chapter (AAEE NSW).
We are very excited about future management of Sustainable Schools NSW. Helping schools take action for their local environment is important to us. We want to help build stronger connections between schools and their community, including through our Make the Change project. We want to build on the current program to make it even more useful for schools, teachers, students and the whole community.
In the future, we will be asking members of Sustainable Schools in NSW what they want from the Program. Initially our work will start with a professional development program for teachers at the NSW Environmental Education Conference, to be held in Sydney 27-29 September. Teachers will find this conference a great way to learn, connect with others, and receive BOSTES accreditation.
A more detailed account of changes at Sustainable Schools NSW will appear in the Spring issue of Conversations – the AAEE NSW e-magazine – which is due out at the end of August. Please have a read and let us know if you have any comments.
